Favorite Waterfront Restaurant, Buffalos, Has Reopened In Wilson Village

Written by Palmetto Bluff

Jul 19, 2023

With fabulous views of both the May River Chapel and the May River itself, the wait for Buffalos to reopen its doors is finally over. The Palmetto Bluff culinary team is excited to share the new coastal cuisine-focused menu with diners. “Buffalos is such an important part of our community – with arguably the best restaurant views in the Lowcountry – and we are excited to showcase the new and improved space to our residents, members, and the broader Bluffton community. There is a real buzz in the air,” said Chef Rhy Waddington, Director of Culinary and Events, at Palmetto Bluff Club.

A Fresh Look For Beloved Buffalos

The fully reimagined interiors embrace the brightness of the Lowcountry with refinished hardwood floors, cream-white walls, an exposed kitchen, a brick fireplace, high ceilings, and soft seating in front of the restaurant on the Village Park Square designed to welcome patrons upon arrival. A revolving exhibit of works by local artists will enliven the walls.

The refreshed dining space features artwork from Artist In Residence, Shannon Whitworth.

Expanded screened-in porch and outdoor patio.

While retaining the friendly local hospitality that Palmetto Bluff’s property owners and the local community have come to love over the years, Buffalos has significantly expanded the rear patio with a covered outdoor dining terrace as well as an open area showcasing some of the best views in the Lowcountry. The outdoor porch roof was designed to not interfere or block any of the existing windows and allow as much natural light into the screened porch as possible, maintaining the enviable views overlooking the May River on Boat House Street.

Buffalos new bar is home to picturesque cocktails and mocktails.

The new full bar with seating for ten features a raw bar that will utilize the great seasonal bounty of the May River, including locally caught oysters, shrimp, flounder, and snapper. Legendary French cookware brand, Le Creuset, has partnered with Buffalos to create a curated dinnerware collection, adding another level of handcrafted elegance and personalization used for food service, displays, and décor.

The Dreamer is composed of empress gin, lavender seeds, lemon juice simple syrup, and ginger beer.

Behind The Bar

Fan-favorite bartender, Shelby Ehrenreich, is serving up a delicious selection of spirits at the bar including The Dreamer, Smoke & Spice, Cucumber Honeyberry, Your Pine-ness, and an Amsterdam Old Fashion. For those looking for a photogenic drink option without the alcohol, Shelby can also shake up a Blueberry Ginger Mint Nojito, Spice & Spritz, or The Miche-nada. As for those looking for an excellent wine pairing, newly appointed Beverage Director, Gene Castellino, has worked closely with the food and beverage team to curate a wine list sure to elevate any dining experience.

New On The Menu

Shareable plates and well-rounded entrees.

New menu items include but are not limited to, shareable starters such as local fish crudo, shrimp stuffed padron peppers, and grilled octopus followed by a blackened swordfish sandwich, a sprouted grain bowl with seasonal Palmetto Bluff Farm vegetables, and a pork, veal, and ricotta meatball served over cheesy stone ground grits as entree options.
