When Made in the South Award winner Oliver Thames couldn’t find the perfect cooker for his Lowcountry-style oyster roasts, he decided to build his own. Inspired by his childhood, Thames brought together the traditional open wood fire and the modern era with an eye-catching, game-changing cooker. And then was born Bulls Bay OYRO.
Oliver arrives at the Artist Cottage in Moreland Village on Monday, February 19, for a week of hands-on educational workshops and gallery hours. That evening Oliver and his wife, Debbie, will open the doors of the Artist Cottage for their Meet + Greet, an opportunity to meet the Thames and learn all about Bulls Bay OYRO. Can’t make it on Monday? Be sure to stop by the Artist Cottage between 10 a.m.–12 p.m. Tuesday through Friday that week to chat with Oliver and learn the process of his craft.
On Thursday, February 22, Oliver will host a workshop explaining the OYRO cooker and how to throw the ideal South Carolina Oyster Roast. On Friday, February 23, Oliver will switch gears and teach a workshop on how to put a Southern spin on a Lobster Bake using his cooker.
