Artist in Residence | Jerry Talton

Photo Gallery

Jerry Talton of Jerry Talton Decoys joined us at the Artist Cottage at the beginning of December for a week full of learning about duck decoys, their history and how they are made. Jerry is both an avid waterfowler and carver who makes traditional decoys focusing mainly on the time-honored methods and materials of the Core Sound area. He does not limit his carving to ducks alone, but also makes shorebirds, fish, and the occasional whimsical folk art inspired pieces. Jerry hosted a Meet + Greet at the Artist Cottage on Monday and Gallery Hours throughout the week. He also hosted two shorebird decoy classes and taught about the history of these decoys and how to make them.
