Our second artist of the year, chef and founder of Scratch Pasta Company Stephanie Fees, joined us for the 2021 Artist in Residence program with her stay in the Artist Cottage last week.

After a long career as a professional chef in New York City and West Virginia, Stephanie returned to her hometown of Lynchburg, Virginia, to run the kitchen at West Manor Estate, a local wedding venue. During her time at West Manor, Stephanie had the opportunity to attend “pasta school” in Chiavari, Italy, where she studied the country’s many authentic pastas and sauces. This experience inspired her to start an artisan pasta shop in Lynchburg, bringing the art of fresh, homemade pasta back to her Southern home.

The week began with a Meet + Greet, gallery hours each morning, plus some one-on-one time with Stephanie as she taught guests how to handmake a number of pasta shapes during Wednesday afternoon's workshop and then showed guests how to make every element of a classic Italian supper at Friday afternoon's event.
