Cultivating
Sustainability
Being an expression of the foodways of the South Carolina Lowcountry requires that we look not just at presenting food, but at food production.
To deliver on something that aspires to do more than serve as a farm, we use the Palmetto Bluff Farm to lead the way in recapturing and cultivating authentic farming practices of the Lowcountry of South Carolina and celebrate and collaborate with the farmers, hunters, fishermen and craftsmen who share our vision.
Dig In
A Rich History of Eating Well
Through our small, productive working farm, we focus on sustainable farming practices that have a historical connection to this geography and climate. We build strategic partnerships, document our practices, educate others and create opportunities for employee, guest and member experiences, including shared meals.

 Meet the Farm Manager.
As farm manager, Shane Rahn is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Palmetto Bluff Farm, monitoring and developing the seasonal plantings and harvests, educational outreach and programming for employees, members and guests. Before taking the helm of the Farm, Shane was a wildlife technician with the Palmetto Bluff Conservancy for four years, supporting the team in its land management efforts. Shane has a bachelor’s in crop and soil environmental sciences. No stranger to farming, Shane’s family’s farm in Haddonville, Georgia, has been growing sweet corn, red potatoes, zucchini, squash, watermelon and sugarcane for seven generations.
