Hit the Trails

Written by Palmetto Bluff

At over 20,000 acres, Palmetto Bluff is an outdoor paradise just waiting to be explored. Our expansive trail system traverses the entirety of the property and connects residential neighborhoods to parks, recreational activities, and the best of Wilson and Moreland Villages beneath the shelter of century-old live oaks and amid spectacular natural beauty rich in wildlife. Whether you’re looking for a serene nature walk or a more adventurous hike, our trails are the perfect way to discover all that Palmetto Bluff has to offer.

Stop by Recreation in Wilson Village, the Ship’s Store at Wilson Landing, or the Outfitters in Moreland Village for a map detailing Palmetto Bluff’s trails and its natural treasures and inhabitants.

OLD PALMETTO BLUFF ROAD TRAIL (5.4 miles)
Walking, Jogging, Biking, Golf Cart

This trail begins at the main intersection into Wilson Village and continues past May River Forest and the Headwaters Conservation area to the Greeters Cottage. Its improved surface easily allows walking, jogging, biking, or travel via golf cart. Two gravel trails and the Sand Hill and Lake Haynes Loops are located along the Old Palmetto Bluff Road Trail.

CALDER TRAIL (2.8 miles)
Walking, Jogging, Biking, Golf Cart

This improved surface trail winds through May River Forest, the golf course, and Calder Park, which includes a great grassy area for throwing balls and frisbees.

WILSON VILLAGE TRAIL (2.2 miles)
Walking, Jogging, Biking, Golf Cart

This trail includes sidewalks and gravel trails as it takes you by historic, scenic, and retail points of interest.

RIVER ROAD TRAIL (5.3 miles)
Walking, Jogging, Biking

This trail has an unimproved surface. The trail incorporates parts of two old properties, Pettigrew and Moreland. The high bluff area was part of the 980-acre Pettigrew property owned by Joseph Crowell in the 1860s. The trail then leads to Barge Landing and Moreland Landing, which was part of John Cole’s 1,200-acre Moreland property.

MORELAND TRAIL (2.6 miles)
Walking, Jogging, Biking

This trail connects Wilson and Moreland Villages. The 10-foot wide asphalt trail runs west from the Old Palmetto Bluff Road trail to downtown Moreland, where it incorporates sidewalks, shell paths, and long scenic views of Cauley’s Creek.

LONG LEAF PINE TRAIL (2.9 miles)
Mountain Biking

For the experienced mountain biker, the Long Leaf Pine Trail meanders through the pine uplands, with a few “obstacles” along the way. Please be on the lookout for some of “Big Jay’s” turkeys — they are rumored to love this habitat.

Our trails incorporate both improved and unimproved surfaces and lead you to scenic, historic, and wildlife viewing destinations. All of our trails may be hiked or run comfortably, giving you the best view of the birds and other wildlife that are abundant at Palmetto Bluff. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing, bring bottled water, and apply sunscreen and bug spray.
