Inspired by uniquely textured objects in nature, Mary Frances Maker believes beauty is found in imperfections. As a native of Columbus, Georgia, Mary Frances is now settled close to home in Atlanta.

She is a fan of neutrals, effortless dressing, and a constant mess maker. Having fresh flowers in her home is a must and you are likely to find Porter, her bernedoodle pup, by her side. After marrying her college sweetheart in 2018, Mary Frances gained the fitting last name “Maker” and it continues to serve her well in her business. Expanding their family with a daughter in 2021, Mary Frances now more than ever values the community and sentiments her pieces embody.

Join us at FLOW Gallery + Workshop for a jewelry-transforming experience! Watch Mary Frances Maker, a custom fine jewelry designer from Atlanta, GA, as she removes diamonds and gemstones from an existing ring and creates a wax for an entirely new piece of jewelry. Mary Frances will also be on hand to answer your questions about how to reimagine your dated jewelry pieces best to create new family heirlooms for you and your family to love for generations. The demonstration will be from 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm, and then she’ll join us for libations and conversation.

Wax Carving Workshop - Create Your Own Ring

FLOW Gallery + Workshop | $145

Rooted in the age-old lost wax casting technique, learn to carve your ring with fine jewelry designer Mary Frances Maker. In this workshop, you’ll receive the tools needed to learn the skills to carve a ring for your finger out of a block of wax. Mary Frances will discuss how to size your ring to fit your finger perfectly, then share carving techniques for the most comfortable fit and how wax models turn into metal using the lost wax casting method. After the workshop, Mary Frances will take your wax moldings back to her studio in Atlanta to have your ring cast into sterling silver and then sent back to you. Your newly carved ring will also make a perfect addition to any rings you wear as a “stacking band.”

Inspired by the Bluff - Create Your Own Custom Jewelry Piece

FLOW Gallery + Workshop | $175

Join custom jewelry artist Mary Frances Maker for a morning workshop learning about the inspiration she found for her exclusive collection for Palmetto Bluff’s FLOW Gallery + Workshop, and how she came to decide which natural elements she could use in jewelry. After learning about Mary Frances’ process, attendees will assemble a necklace or pair of earrings using some of the cast brass pieces Mary Frances found during previous visits to the Bluff, including shell fragments, bark, leaf imprints, and other oddities found on property. Workshop participants will leave with their own custom sterling silver piece of jewelry sourced from Palmetto Bluff.

In this workshop, you’ll receive the tools needed to learn the skills to carve a pair of earrings out of a block of wax. Mary Frances will share carving techniques and how wax models turn into metal using the lost wax casting method. After the workshop, Mary Frances will take your wax moldings back to her studio in Atlanta to have your earrings cast into sterling silver and then sent back to you. If you do not have pierced ears, you can still join the workshop by adding clips to the back of your earrings instead of posts.
