An artist, chef, musician, and builder, Kurtis Schumm is a true Renaissance man, a jack of many self-taught trades, and a master of all. After a successful career in the music industry playing with bands such as Gov’t Mule and Emmylou Harris, Kurtis transitioned into a culinary career as an executive chef. With his wife as his muse, he has been inspired to turn artwork into his career. With a creative energy and willingness to try new things, Kurtis has pioneered a unique and groundbreaking art style using acrylic, ink, and paints.

Feel the flow of ink and acrylic and pay homage to an integral part of the Lowcountry ecosystem – the oyster! Self-taught renaissance man Kurtis Schumm will share a few of the secrets to his self-invented art style and one-of-a-kind artistic method as participants recreate the likeness of Lowcountry oysters. The free-form ink and acrylic is a perfect class for artists of any skill level.

Morning Marsh Scenes

FLOW Gallery + Workshop | $75 (plus tax + processing fees)

Using the natural beauty of Palmetto Bluff as his inspiration and backdrop, master of many mediums Kurtis Schumm will lead participants in landscape “sketches” of May River. After taking photos of the landscape view, Kurtis will instruct participants how to put ink to acrylic to capture the essence of the majestic marsh, salt water, and sea sky. Participants are encouraged to bring phones to this workshop in order to take inspirational photos for later reference.
