If you’ve been following along with our Palmetto Bluff: History series, you’ve discovered that the interesting and unique street names throughout Palmetto Bluff are a clue to our storied past and also our present-day community.
Located deep within the May River Forest neighborhood of Palmetto Bluff, Trout Hole Road is named for – you guessed it – the abundance of trout that can be found at the Bluff.
While there are several great places to fish in the May River at Palmetto Bluff, there’s one particular spot that’s known especially well for yielding large and delicious fish – the “Trout Hole.” The not-so-secret location is farther up the May River than the location of the street suggests, and the Palmetto Bluff Conservancy’s executive director, Jay Walea, can tell you exactly where to drop your line. (Note: there’s great freshwater fishing at the Bluff, too. Some of the ponds hold trophy-sized bass!)
