Dorothy Shain is a Greenville, South Carolina-based artist and creative entrepreneur with a dynamic portfolio. Her work is an exploration of mediums reflective of the colors, textures, and patterns drawn from travels and adventures, revealing inspiration and influence from countless people, places, and cultures. After graduating from Southern Methodist University in 2012 with a B.A. in Studio Art, Dorothy launched her brand in September of 2014. The business has continued to grow ever since, now encompassing a number of collaborations, licensing, print sales, and most recently, textiles and wallpapers. From a line of swimwear with Anthropologie to custom-designed products for SPANX, Dorothy is passionate about partnering with companies that share similar values, most importantly, value philanthropy.

Art in the Elements: Finding Pattern Inspiration at Palmetto Bluff

Artist Cottage | $75

In this workshop, participants will draw inspiration from their surroundings at Palmetto Bluff. The session begins with a nature walk to collect a handful of natural elements from the area and taking them back to the Cottage to paint or sketch. Of these initial sketches, students will choose two or three to create a pattern in a painting or drawing form, culminating into a final patterned painting on paper.

A Simplified Landscape: The Art of Abstracting Reality

While some artists strive to reproduce entire scenes, Dorothy's work aims to evoke isolated images or colors she observes in the world. In this workshop, Dorothy will walk attendees through this process, focusing on how she interprets her experiences as creative inspiration.
