20,000 ACRES, ONE MISSION
All who visit Palmetto Bluff are stunned by its natural beauty – the abundant wildlife, the thriving flora, the undisturbed marshlands and waterways. One look is all it takes to understand why people come here the first time, but it’s our approach to conservation and preservation that explains why people come back time and time again. A full one-third of our 20,000 acres are and will always be completely undisturbed, with the beauty of the Carolina Lowcountry allowed to shine through without homes, shops or any other development.
Elsewhere development is thoughtful and limited as we make great efforts to preserve the natural state so you can experience the untouched beauty of the land. Among the highlights is the River Road Preserve, a natural wildlife haven spanning 1.4 miles of waterfront on the island’s eastern edge. Spot bald eagles from the observation posts, learn about eelgrass via interpretive signage, and see the great blue heron tend to its young. And for those who want to learn more, the Palmetto Bluff Conservancy offers regular programs and activities that highlight the best of our natural world.
